Cinema Café is bringing cinema back to the bush

Until Cinema Café, small towns have not been able to sustain full time or near full time cinema.

Cinema café provides cinema (up to 7 days per week) as a value add to existing rural businesses such as pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafés.

Currently cinema cafes are operating in Corryong (a small isolated rural town in north east of Victoria) Tumbarumba (a small town in the south west of NSW) and Cape Tribulation where the Daintree meets the Barrier Reef. The Paragon Theatre, a Cinema Café “outlet” located in Queenstown commenced screening regular movies on the 13 February 2009.

A number of other locations are currently under consideration.

Cinema Cafés are sustainable because:

· They add value to an existing business and as result the operating costs of the cinema café are marginal;

· They provide a high impact cinema experience, showing new release movies on a big screen with high quality surround sound;

· Cinema Cafe Design Concept

Customers watch a movie whilst enjoying a delicious meal or snack and a refreshing drink or two (Cinema Café's are generally licensed so people can combine a movie and their lunch time or evening meal as a comprehensive entertainment experience. Many people choose to meet before the movie for a relaxing drink or stay afterwards to spend time with their friends)

· Cinema cafes receive movies without a showing payment guarantee (Odd One Out Pty Ltd, owner of the trademark, Cinema Café, covers the distributor’s guarantee). This means you will always make a gross profit from your cinema, every showing week.

· Data from Tumbarumba, in its first 18 months of operation, suggests annual cinema café attendances should equal 2.5 times the total population of the town where they are located (For example, Tumbarumba has population of approximately 1500 people and can expect to have 3750 cinema patrons for the year. The average ticket cost is approximately $10.00 and, once again on average, people spend around the equivalent amount on food and beverages. This means for a population of 2000 people you can expect a cinema café to turn over $100,000 per annum)

To own a Cinema Café you need to:

* Own or operate a café, restaurant, club, hotel or other compatible business in an isolated small rural town.
* Be prepared to invest as little as $5,000 (anticipated average investment $12,000)
* Have a room or be able to build a room in your business that is approximately 50 - 80 square metres in size.

PLEASE NOTE: The Cinema Café concept was developed to bring cinema to people, living in the bush, who are currently disadvantaged in terms of access to cinema. Cinema Cafes cannot be located where they might impact negatively on existing 35mm Cinemas.

Cinema Café can supply the audio-visual equipment and reclining armchairs required to set up your cinema plus a regular supply of new release movies to entertain your customers.

Cinema Café can also supply a popcorn machine and supplies and point of sale equipment.
